Who is Anandswamy Gaddadevarmath? Congress Candidate from Haveri Constituency

Haveri, Karnataka: In a surprising last-minute move, the Congress party announced Anandswamy Gaddadevarmath as their candidate for the Haveri-Gadag Lok Sabha seat. The announcement, made by Karnataka in-charge KC Venugopal yesterday, came after the initial CEC list only contained six names.

Gaddadevarmath’s selection has raised eyebrows due to his limited recognition within the constituency. While his father, GS Gaddadevarmath, is a former MLA from the Shirahatti constituency in the Gadag district, Anandswamy himself is primarily known as a businessman runs a bike company’s dealership and BSc graduate.

Local sources suggest there was a lack of strong contenders within the Congress party for the Haveri seat. MLC Saleem Ahmed and Minister HK Patil reportedly expressed no interest in contesting the Lok Sabha election, paving the way for Gaddadevarmath’s nomination.

Despite his local business ties, many insiders believe Gaddadevarmath may struggle to compete against potential BJP candidates like former Chief Ministers Basavaraj Bommai or Jagadish Shettar. Only time will tell how Gaddadevarmath will fare in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
